Nigeria: OAP, Diplomatic OPJ dies at 66 after battling partial stroke for 5 years

Radio presenter, Pius Opute Orezimena, popularly known as “Diplomatic OPJ,” died on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 66.


He died after battling a  partial stroke for five years, with his family announcing his death in a statement on Wednesday, August 26.


The family described his death as a great loss, saying he would be remembered for the legacy of love, wisdom and family he left behind.


“With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and family patriarch, Diplomatic OPJ (Pius Opute Orezimena Jnr.), who peacefully slept in the Lord on Tuesday, 25th August 2026,” the statement said.


“His passing is a great loss to us, but we are comforted by the beautiful memories he leaves behind and the legacy of love, wisdom, and family that he shared with us,” it added.


The family said Orezimena was survived by his children, grandchildren and extended family members.


“We humbly ask family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to remember us in their prayers during this difficult time,” the family said.


Before his death, Orezimena worked with Wazobia 95.1 FM in Lagos state.


The veteran broadcaster was known for his career in radio journalism and was remembered by his family as a father, grandfather and family patriarch.


His death was announced a day after he passed away, with the family asking friends, colleagues and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn his loss.
