KC Luxury and NDLEA: Inside the N39 Billion Cocaine Case Rocking Lagos

The arrest of popular Lagos socialite and luxury influencer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, widely known as KC Luxury, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency [NDLEA] has become one of the biggest drug cases in Nigeria in 2026.

Here is a breakdown of what has happened so far in court.

Who Is KC Luxury?

Afolabi Kazeem Michael, 49, is a Lagos-based businessman and social media influencer known for dealing in gold, jewellery and luxury goods. With over 700,000 followers on Instagram, he is famous for showcasing exotic cars, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet watches, and Hermes bags. The NDLEA alleges he used his luxury business as a front.

The N39bn Cocaine Seizure That Started It All

According to the NDLEA, on August 3, 2026, operatives intercepted 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine at a DHL courier facility inside the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company [NAHCO], Ikeja, Lagos.

The agency valued the consignment at N39 billion, about $28 million, describing it as its largest cocaine interception through a courier company in Nigeria.

The drugs were concealed in brown boxes and were allegedly destined for the United Kingdom. NDLEA Chairman, Brig-Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa, said the shipment is linked to an international cartel that moves cocaine from South America through Nigeria to the UK, Europe and Asia.[Rtd]

How KC Luxury Was Arrested

NDLEA says KC Luxury was identified as the alleged Nigerian "arrowhead" of the network.

He was arrested on August 13, 2026, at the boarding gate of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris. The agency said it acted on credible intelligence that he planned to flee the country.

At arrest, NDLEA said it recovered €7,750, £2,800, N100,000 cash, and expensive jewellery. A search of his apartment at Movamo Court, Banana Island, Ikoyi, led to recovery of exotic vehicles.

A second suspect, Lawal Mujab Kehinde, 33, an employee of a logistics company, was also arrested for allegedly packaging the cocaine for export.

Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

30-Day Detention Extension and Account Freeze

On August 20, 2026, Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court, Lagos, granted NDLEA's application to extend KC Luxury's detention by 30 days to allow for further investigation.

The court also granted an interim order preserving/freezing funds in his Providus Bank account No. 4005905755 and other accounts linked to his BVN, pending investigation and prosecution.

The case was adjourned to September 17, 2026 for report of investigation.

Court Orders NDLEA to Produce KC Luxury

In a separate fundamental rights suit, Justice Friday Ogazi of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, on August 27, 2026, ordered the NDLEA to produce KC Luxury in court after 14 days in detention without formal charge.

The suit was filed by his counsel Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal [SAN]. His father, Eric Afolabi, deposed to the affidavit alleging unlawful detention, search without warrant, and seizure of personal items.

KC Luxury is asking the court for:

Immediate release or bail on liberal termsReturn of seized items including iPhone 15, Patek Philippe Nautilus, Hermes bags, Lexus RX350 and 2024 Toyota Hilux

N100m damages for circulation of his photos/videos in custody, N50m for unlawful arrest/detention, and N40m for invasion of privacy.

Medical consideration for acute severe asthma

Justice Ogazi ordered NDLEA to respond within 5 days and adjourned the rights case to September 9, 2026.

What Happens Next?

The case is still under investigation. NDLEA says it is working with UK law enforcement as other members of the alleged network have been arrested abroad. The substantive drug trafficking charges are yet to be formally filed.

We will update this post as the court hearings on September 9 and September 17 unfold.

Disclaimer: All allegations are as reported by NDLEA and are yet to be proven in court. KC Luxury is presumed innocent.
