The Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council in Delta State, Honourable Ramson Onoyake, has explained why he brought in anti COVID-19 teams to the last Uvwie Day Celebration, held at the Urhobo College Playground in Effurun.
The council boss, who spoke exclusively with newsmen at the well attended event, explained that the teams were invited to test residents on the dreaded disease and vaccinate those willing to do so against the virus.
He emphasised that the pandemic was real and stressed the urgent need to curb its spread in the area.
Onoyake, who stated that teams were stationed at two centres at the event, disclosed that six persons tested positive to the disease at the event.
He therefore seized the opportunity to call on residents of Uvwie Local Government Area to obey measures aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic.
In a related development, Warri South Local Government Council has embarked on an enlightenment campaign on COVID-19 as well as to vaccinate residents against the dreaded disease.
A team of the exercise was seen in an open van on some major streets in Warri.
The health educator and leader of the Beatrice Onwu, who spoke on the exercise at the Warri Garage , noted that most people were still doubting the existence of the deadly disease.
She explained that for that reason, the council decided to embark on the enlightenment campaign and to also vaccinate residents in the area, adding that the response was encouraging, just as she disclosed further that the exercise would continue to ensure that the virus was stamped out from the locality.
