The Super Eagles started their AFCON campaign with a 1-0 win against Egypt after a wonderful strike from Kelechi Iheanacho in the 30th minute gave Austin Eguavoen’s men all three points at Gaoura.
The Super Eagles looked like the underdogs just before the game due to the present form of Mohamed Salah but the Liverpool man was unable to replicate his club form for country tonight.
The Super Eagles were the better team of the evening as they looked more composed and organized on the night and missed several chances that would have increased the scoreline .
Despite getting all three points thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho, there were two players who shouldn’t be starting a game for Nigeria ahead of their other fixtures.
Samuel Chukwueze: The Villarreal man was barely in the game as he contributed little or nothing in the match. He barely created a chance and was later replaced by CSKA Moscow man, Chidera Ejuke. Chidera Ejuke impressed and looked promising and I feel he should start the next game ahead of Chukwueze in the next game.
Sadiq Umar: The UD Almeria man came into the game in the second half but was unable to make a name for himself in the tournament. He replaced Taiwo Awoniyi who didn’t perform poorly.
Nigeria are now at the top of the table and will continue their quest to lift the trophy when they face Sudan on Saturday.
Do you think these players shouldn’t start a game for Nigeria again? And do you see Nigeria going all the way to the finals? Drop your thoughts in the comment section and don’t forget to share this article. Thank you.
