Surgery - Doesn't Change Your Mind

Gym
This is the time of year when people have over-indulged their desires in relation to luxurious foodstuffs, chocolate and rich confectionery. But in January each year they start to focus on how they feel about themselves based on what they have eaten in December. Most rush to the gym, others start daily walking or running regimes and there is another group who take it to the extreme of booking themselves in for gastric band surgery. This is pretty drastic and generally the option that people with larger amounts of weight choose to feel good about themselves quickly. But quick fixes are not the answer when it comes to lasting success in the age old battle against obesity.

Policeman sentenced to death by hanging for killing 20yr old man

Justice has finally come the way of the family of slain Emmanuel Victor (pictured above), a 20 year old young man who was killed in front of his mother by a trigger-happy Policeman, Mathew Egheghe, two years ago in Yenogoa, Bayelsa state.

Victor was shot dead after he confronted a group of policemen who were trying to extort money from motorists as he was coming back from church. Angered by his effrontery to question their action, Policeman Egheghe moved close to Victor and shot him at close range.
Narrating what happened, Victor's mother Grace, who witnessed the incident said:
"They shot my son brutally. As he fell while they were shooting him, the tallest of them still continued shooting him on the ground". She said she was harassed and stopped from going close to her dying son even as he lay gasping for life in the pool of his own blood.
Delivering his judgement on the case, Justice Lucky Boufili said that such a cruel act was only punishable by the maximum penalty which is death. He sentenced Mathew Egheghe to death by Hanging. The police has since dismissed Mathew Egheghe and his two accomplices from the force.

The Numerous Benefits of Taking Vitamins

If you are among those who lived in the '80s as a child, perhaps you may have heard what the legendary wrestler Hulk Hogan used to say about vitamins. "To all my little Hulk maniacs, say your prayers take your vitamins, and you will never go wrong," he would famously preach back then. While Hulk Hogan is by no means a scientist or doctor, he helped underline the importance of vitamins in the minds of millions of children during his heydays.

20-year-old-orphan-dying

Pease help save Odutola Emmanuel’s life. He is down with kidney ailment and he is currently at LUTH where he is receiving treatment though it’s really slow due to lack of fund.
Emmanuel is a 20 years old orphan who neither has a brother nor sister. His father passed on when he was a baby and the mother followed before he graduated from the high school.
He moved in with his grandmother afterwards but the aged woman was later thrown out of her house in Mushin due to her inability to pay the rent. Investigations have confirmed that Emmanuel has no one apart from his aged grandmother. For the past one year, Emmanuel has been living with my little cousin and his parents in Mafoluku Oshodi. My cousin was his classmate at the high school.
He was rushed to LUTH on December 26th 2012 but was only able to receive some treatment/first dialysis on Jan 2 with the little fund I raised. According to the doctor, he needs regular dialysis or kidney transplant to keep Emmanuel alive.

Apple to refund millions for kids' in-app purchases

Apple will refund millions of dollars to consumers after allowing kids to make purchases in apps without their parents' consent.

FTC Commissioner Edith Ramirez said that Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) failed to notify parents that once they enter their Apple passwords for children to buy virtual items for games on their iPhones and iPads, they leave open a 15-minute window during which children can make additional and unlimited in-app purchases without additional parental authorization. These charges generally range from 99 cents to $99.99 per in-app charge.

Ramirez said the window allowed children to run up millions of dollars of charges on apps including "Dragon Story" and "Tiny Zoo Friends." One consumer complained to the FTC that her daughter had spent $2,600 in the app Tap Pet Hotel, according to Ramirez. Others reported that their kids had racked up as much as $500 in in-app purchases.

Related: 25 apps you should download right now Apple has agreed to provide full refunds to consumers who have been affected, Ramirez said. Apple has emailed consumers who may have been impacted by unauthorized charges, but Ramirez said consumers can also reach out to Apple if they believe they have been affected.

"This settlement is a victory for consumers harmed by Apple's unfair billing, and a signal to the business community: whether you're doing business in the mobile arena or the mall down the street, fundamental consumer protections apply," Ramirez said in a statement. "You cannot charge consumers for purchases they did not authorize."
Apple said protecting children has always been a top priority for the App Store.

"Today's agreement with the FTC extends our existing refund program for in-app purchases which may have been made without a parent's permission," the company said in a statement.
If the refunds do not reach $32.5 million, Apple will be required to pay the balance to the FTC.
Prior to the settlement, Apple already modified its billing practices by notifying parents of the 15-minute window and giving them the option to cancel at any time.
Apple has also already settled a class action lawsuit with parents who said the company's policy let their children rack up charges without their permission.
