Surgery - Doesn't Change Your Mind

Gym
This is the time of year when people have over-indulged their desires in relation to luxurious foodstuffs, chocolate and rich confectionery. But in January each year they start to focus on how they feel about themselves based on what they have eaten in December. Most rush to the gym, others start daily walking or running regimes and there is another group who take it to the extreme of booking themselves in for gastric band surgery. This is pretty drastic and generally the option that people with larger amounts of weight choose to feel good about themselves quickly. But quick fixes are not the answer when it comes to lasting success in the age old battle against obesity.

Sheila Grainger Lifestyle Engineer, and active proponent of the VGB (Virtual Gastric Band) says that the most important difference between the virtual gastric and the actual gastric band is that the virtual version deals with the issues in a person's mind and their relationship with food. "Having a foreign body inside your stomach simply does not deal with psychological factors. A surgical patient can still over eat and burst the band. With the virtual band, if they find they are eating too much, it can be tightened under hypnosis, there is no invasive surgery and they are treating the psychological problems not just the physical."

This really resonates with me because it makes logical sense. I have been so taken by the system that I have trained in it myself. We have all been there, at a point in our lives where we want to fit into that little black dress or look particularly good for a wedding or other auspicious event.

What woman isn't concerned about how she looks, to some degree. So the good news is that we don't have to go to the extremes any more undergoing surgery - we can achieve results with the virtual surgery variety and whats even better, we get to deal with the psychological affects which putting on weight can represent to us ladies!

The psychological effect of carrying weight has in my opinion not actually given sufficient press, especially when it comes to us females. Its not about vanity, its about wanting to look your best, to be your best, and to feel at your best. Regardless of what others think of how we look, it is important that we are happy with how we look. Unhappiness with our outer image can lead to a lot of inner pain and turmoil. Inner pain and turmoil in turn accentuate our negative frailties and inevitably we will sabotage our attempts to improve our image. However, when we deal effectively with the inner issues we carry, whether related to our weight or not, we are actually setting ourselves up to healing ourselves inside and out.

What inner turmoil have you inside and what would change in your life if you were to deal effectively with it?
