FULLER...Thomas Fuller was born around 1710 in West Africa, likely in the region that is now Liberia or Benin. At about 14 years old, he was forcibly taken from his homeland and brought to America, where he spent the rest of his life working on a farm. Although he never learned to read or write, he developed one of the most extraordinary natural talents for mathematics ever recorded.

Fuller became famous for performing incredibly difficult calculations entirely in his head. His remarkable ability attracted visitors from different places who wanted to test whether the stories about him were true. They asked him challenging mathematical questions that would normally require pen, paper, and a great deal of time.

One question asked how many seconds are in a year and a half. Fuller quickly gave the correct answer. He was then asked how many seconds a person had lived if they were 70 years, 17 days, and 12 hours old. Again, he answered correctly within minutes. When one visitor believed the answer was wrong, Fuller calmly pointed out that they had forgotten to include the leap years. After checking again, they discovered Fuller was exactly right.
He was also asked a complicated farming calculation involving the growth of pigs over eight years. After thinking carefully for several minutes, he produced the correct answer once again.
News of his astonishing mathematical talent spread across America and even reached Europe. Many scholars and writers used his achievements to show that natural intelligence and talent can be found in every human being, regardless of background or education. His story inspired countless people and became an important example of the incredible potential of the human mind.
Thomas Fuller passed away in 1790 at around 80 years of age, but he is still remembered as one of history's greatest mental calculators, whose extraordinary gift continues to amaze mathematicians and historians today.
