Andy Burnham is set to become Britain's new Prime Minister, succeeding Keir Starmer after the Labour leader resigned following a series of political setbacks and controversies.
Burnham, the former Mayor of Greater Manchester, will be invited by King Charles III to form a new government before delivering his first address outside 10 Downing Street.
He is expected to outline plans to restore public confidence in government, tackle the cost-of-living crisis, boost economic growth and devolve more powers to regional authorities.
The new Prime Minister takes office amid mounting economic and political challenges, including slow growth, rising government debt, increasing welfare costs, irregular migration and uncertainty caused by the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
He is also expected to announce his new cabinet, including a replacement for Finance Minister Rachel Reeves.
Burnham, who returned to Parliament only weeks ago, has described his leadership as Labour's "last chance" to regain public trust before the next general election, expected in 2029.
His first major policy decision was to cancel the government's proposed nationwide digital identity scheme, saying the funds would instead be redirected to help ease the cost-of-living pressures on households.
