Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 22 kidnapped victims and foiled separate abduction attempts in Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The military disclosed on Saturday that the operations were carried out on June 18 following intelligence reports and distress calls from affected communities.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the first operation took place along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village, where armed terrorists reportedly blocked the highway, attacked two civilian vehicles and abducted several passengers.
He said one civilian was killed before troops arrived and launched a coordinated pursuit operation, supported by aerial surveillance.
The pressure from the troops forced the attackers to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the rescue of 17 kidnapped passengers.
In a separate operation in Chohi Village, Isa Local Government Area, troops responded to a distress call after armed terrorists attempted to abduct farmers working on their farmlands.
Security forces pursued the attackers, rescued five kidnapped farmers and reunited them with their families.
Following the operations, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in nearby communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale, to reassure residents and deter further attacks.
The military said the successful operations reflect Operation FANSAN YAMMA's commitment to protecting lives and property and improving security across the North-West.
Residents of the affected communities have, however, called for a sustained military presence to strengthen security along major roads and farming communities vulnerable to attacks.
