The agency has been notified of fake STAR and STAR VIP condoms produced by Demapharm. This information was revealed by French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) on the 3rd of June 2015 in Paris. Condoms are used to prevent pregnancy and to protect against STDs such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. The product STAR and STAR VIP
condoms did not comply with specification and is being promoted and sold online and retail outlets.
In view of these, NAFDAC warns family planning experts and consumers to desist from using the fake condoms. The family planning experts and other members of the public are implored to notify the Agency if they come across the distribution of the fake condoms.
