Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the arrest in a statement at the weekend said that the suspect was once arrested by men of Nsukka Division of the Nigeria Police for unlawful possession of firearms and later arraigned in court.
The statement reads further: “Giving the account of his present involvement in the case of Armed Robbery/car snatching, which he allegedly perpetrated at Agbani Nguru Nsukka, on September 29 this year, the suspect disclosed that on the fateful day, he went to the victims residence with a cohort whom he gave his name as one Remy and laid siege at the gate waiting for the victim to come in with his highlander jeep with registration number LND 405 DG model 2004.
“And as the victim approached to open his gate, they surrendered him at gun point and stole the jeep. He further maintained that after robbing the car from the owner, he was asked by Remy to take the stolen vehicle that night to a place called 33 near Onitsha where Remy was said to have contacted an instant buyer.
“He was however taking the vehicle to the place that night through Adani Nsukka Road when he was nabbed by the operatives of Anaku Division of Anambra command that same night following information relayed to various operatives particularly Anaku Division by the operatives of the Nsukka Division of the Nigeria Police after the commission of the offence.”
Amaraizu said the Nsukka Division have commenced investigations in full to get his remaining gang members and to recover some exhibits as the suspect was helping the operatives in their investigations.
He said the suspect was regretting his action while blaming Remy his friend who is at Large now for pushing him into the act, but equally lamented that he got involved in armed robbery when customs seized second hand shoes that he was selling to make a living.
