Eighty Boko Haram fighters have surrendered en mass to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, in Bama, Borno state.
Those who surrendered comprise of commanders, foot soldiers and suppliers of logistics who participated in past battles by the terrorist sect, Punch reports.
This was announced today, October 1 by the acting director of army public relations, Col. Sani Usman.
“The terrorists, among whom were commanders, suppliers and foot soldiers, confirmed to have partook in several terrorists attacks especially on Bama town, Borno State, surrendered as a result of the intense heat and continuous offensive action embarked on by troops.
“It would be recalled that we have repeatedly stated that surrender is the only option available to insurgents as the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force in conjunction with other security agencies are totally committed to the achievement of the three months presidential deadline for the eradication of terrorism in Nigeria,” he said.
According to him, the insurgents had no other option but to surrender as the Army, the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies were determined to meet the deadline given to them by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He therefore urged other members of the terrorist sect to surrender or face total annihilation.

Usman also called on Nigerians to provide security agents with necessary information that could be used to apprehend all suspected terrorists in the area.
This announcement comes six days after the Nigerian Army said that over two hundred Boko Haram terrorists surrendered in Banki town, Borno state.
Nigerian troops have been recording tremendous victory against the insurgents. On September 22, they rescued 241 women and children held captive by the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state.
Just recently, troops arrested a Boko Haram suspect, Musa Abba and recovered some items during a raid at Abbaganaram in Maiduguri, Borno state.
