For the first time, vaccine shows potential protection against gonorrhoea

Researchers at the University of Auckland in New Zealand have for the first time tested a vaccine that could protect an individual against gonorrhoea, according to a study published on Tuesday in medical journal The Lancet.

LAGOS — Another change of brand name in the Nigerian telecoms sector is imminent following the termination of a management agreement with Etisalat Nigeria by its brand parent, Etisalat International of the United Arab Emirates. Chief executive of Etisalat International, Hatem Dowidar, yesterday, gave Etisalat Nigeria another three weeks to use the brand name and phase it out completely.

Okala rallies support for Ikeme, says not yet over

One of Nigeria’s foremost goalkeepers, Emmanuel Okala, on Monday said the Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper, Karl Ikeme’s illness was not an end to his career. Ikeme who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Championship was diagnosed of acute Leukaemia during pre-season testing. The club announced his condition on July 4.

Man Olorunto rapes sister-in-law in Lagos

A 29-year-old bus driver, Folarin Olorunto, who threatened his sister-in-law with a knife to be able to rape her, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. The driver, who resides on Odushola Street, Aboru, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on counts of rape and threat to life.

ASUU says no solidarity strike for Elujoba, ex-OAU VC on trial for corruption

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University chapter, has denied reports of a planned solidarity strike in support of Anthony Elujoba, a former acting vice chancellor of the institution.
