N17bn pension fraud: Arrest, prosecute Maina now, Reps order EFCC

Angered  by alleged looting of pension fund running into billions of naira by former Chairman of Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, and his disappearance and questionable reinstatement, the House of Representatives has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately arrest and prosecute him to serve as deterrent to other corrupt elements with similar tendency.

Nigeria’s government was on Thursday urged to order the release of a pro-Iranian Shiite Muslim group leader, Ibrahim Zakzaky, who has been in custody for nearly two years since clashes with soldiers.  Zakzaky, who heads the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, and his wife should be freed “on health grounds”, lawyer Femi Falana said in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

2 arrested, one killed over kidnapping of four British optician in Delta state

Two suspected militants who took part in the kidnapping and killing of a British optician, Dr Ian Squire, in Burutu area of Delta State, have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, while another member of the gang was killed during an exchange of gunfire.
