The Executive Director of Authority paper, Chuks Akunna, has revealed the reason why the Presidential Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi respectively, should not bother to approach the Supreme Court over the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal; as he maintained that unlike the scenario in 2007, where judges disagreed over the victory of late Umar Musa Yar’Adua, the judges in the case against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu all agreed that the former Lagos governor won the contest.
Chuks Akunna had said, “Even in 2007, when Yar’Adua was elected President, the Supreme Court at the time, not all the judges agreed. But here, as if it was choreographed, the five justices of the Court of Appeal agreed.”
Akunna, who spoke during an interview on Kakaaki, an AIT Television programme, aligned with the position of the Incumbent Governor of Kogi State and a staunch member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Yahaya Bello, who had advised Atiku and Obi against challenging the decision of the Tribunal at the Supreme Court. According to the Authority paper Director, the Supreme Court would base its judgement on the findings of the Tribunal.
Akunna said anyone who saw how the five judges of the Appeal Court agreed that Tinubu won the election, would know that there is no need challenging the judgement.
