Two fully loaded buses owned by the Benue state government‘s Benue Links Transport Company have reportedly been taken hostage by suspected armed men. The buses, which left Makurdi for Lagos, were carrying over 10 passengers.
According to reports, the vehicles were waylaid by the armed men on Sunday around 2:00 pm on the Kogi state road connecting Ajaokuta and Okene.
According to a company source in Makurdi who spoke on the record under the condition of anonymity, some of the passengers were hurt during the attack, while others were fortunate enough to escape unharmed.
He responded, “It is true that the incident occurred yesterday between 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM on the Ajaokuta-Okene road as the two buses were traveling to Lagos.
Ten passengers were taken hostage during the attack, according to the information that was available. Additionally, the incident was reported at the Okene-area Adogo Police Station. ” .
The official bemoaned the Okene-Ajaokuta road’s association with the widespread kidnapping of unwary commuters.
He declared, “This is not the first time we are documenting this kind of incident on that specific axis of Kogi state, and it is not unusual to us. Additionally, the armed gang on that axis has claimed several travelers as victims. Even then, nothing is being done to contain the threat.
“People now feel very unsafe traveling on that road to any location in the country, so we are pleading with security agencies to take action against these despicable incidents. “
No members of the transport company’s management were willing to comment on the situation, and the Benue State Police Command remained silent as well, probably because the incident did not take place within their purview.
