8 Health Check Every Man Should Do

Don’t let your health suffer from neglect. Use these self-exams to uncover early warning signs of men’s health issues, from heart disease to testicular cancer.

According to a men’s health survey conducted by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), more than half of all men have not seen their primary care physician in the past year. “Neglecting men’s health is one reason why men have a higher age-adjusted death rate than women,” says Bruce B. Campbell, MD, a men’s health specialist at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. If you are one of those men who need to pay more attention to their health, start by scheduling a regular physical with your doctor. You can also do these quick self-exams at home between check-ups — but they should supplement your professional care, not replace it.

Health Benefits of Eating Walnuts

Walnuts are not only delicious, they also pack a nutritional punch. Check out the health benefits of walnuts

1. They can reduce the risk of breast cancer
Eating about 28 walnut halves a day provides antioxidants and phytosterols that may help reduce the risk of breast cancer, according to a study at the Marshall University School of Medicine in West Virginia. Mice were fed a daily diet with the human equivalent of two ounces (60 g) of walnuts. Compared to mice fed a control diet, the walnut eaters had significantly decreased breast tumour incidence and a slower rate of tumour growth.

2. They’re packed with omega-3 fatty acids
A diet rich in omega-3s is beneficial in reducing depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), cancer and Alzheimer’s disease and there’s also strong evidence that omega-3s counter inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease.

3. They can reduce risk of diabetes
Women who reported eating one ounce (30 g) of nuts at least five times per week reduced their risk of type

2 diabetes by almost 30 percent compared to those who rarely or never ate nuts, say researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health. The mono- and polyunsaturated fats in nuts are good for insulin sensitivity.

4. They contain antioxidants that boost heart health
A new study from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania shows walnuts have higher quality antioxidants and a mix of more healthful antioxidants than any other nut.

5. They can help you deal with stress
A diet rich in walnuts and walnut oil may help the body deal better with stress. Research published last year in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition found that walnuts and walnut oil lowered both resting blood pressure and blood pressure responses to stress in the laboratory. The researchers said the study shows that a dietary change could help our bodies better respond to stress.

Nigerian lesbian asylum seeker says she faces death sentence if deported

46 year old Nigerian lesbian asylum seeker in the UK, Adejumoke Apata (pictured above), says she risks a death sentence if she is deported to Nigeria.

Ms Apata says she fled Nigeria in 2004 and claims that her girlfriend who refused to go with her, was brutally murdered by vigilantes in 2012.

Before she left Nigeria, Adejumoke said she was subjected to homophobic torture, persecution and a brutal arrest after she was exposed as a gay woman. She claims she was also sentenced to death by stoning for being a lesbian. Continue...

Adejumoke, who is facing deportation, doesn't want to be deported and has started a campaign aimed at persuading people to sign a petition against her deportation.

"Returning to Nigeria is not an option for me, because as well as a death sentence hanging over me, I will face 14 years in prison due to the anti-gay law that was passed by the Nigerian Government in January 2014. I want to remain in the UK in order to contribute positively to the society and support my girlfriend, who I am now engaged to," Adejumoke said in a YouTube video.

March 29-Chief Magistrate Hacked To Death By Her House Help! Why? - Olufunmilayo Timeyin, a retired Chief magistrate aged 65 has been murderd by her male house help at her residence in Laderin estate in Obafemi-Owode LGA of Ogun State. The house help who goes by the name David, was said to have attacked and beheaded his boss after scaling the fence of the bungalow and deactivating the security system inside the building.

He then hid himself within the compound before slaughtering late Timeyin. On killing his boss, he scaled the fence back into the bush to hide himself from being caught.

Unluckily for him, Olumide, one of the late Chief Magistrate sons had heard his mother’s cries as she was been hacked to death by David. So he screamed at his neighbours for help. The neighbours in turn notified the Ogun State Vigilance Service to search for him. The Police later found David hiding in the bush at the back of the house without his clothes on and got him arrested. The late Magistrate’s corpse was then taken to the mortuary.

David, who is an Igede, and born in Benue state was employed as house help barely two months ago, but was sent packing two weeks ago for stealing his boss’ valuables, phones and jewelries inclusive. He was arrested when he was caught, but was later released by the boss, Timeyin.

Please let’s be careful about the kind of people we bring into our houses as house helps, so we don’t bring in criminals and terrible people to give us problems we cannot explain.

March 24, 2014 (10:24 am local time)

AJAM Live @ajamlive

“This evening I was briefed by representatives from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). They informed me that Inmarsat, the UK company that provided the satellite data which indicated the northern and southern corridors, has been performing further calculations on the data. Using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort, they have been able to shed more light on MH370′s path.

“Based on their new analysis, Inmarsat and the AAIB have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth.

“This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

“We well be holding a press conference tomorrow with further details. In the meantime, we wanted to inform you of this new development at the earliest opportunity. We share this information out of a commitment to openness and respect for the families, two principles which have guided this investigation.

“Malaysia Airlines have already spoken to the families of the passengers and crew to inform them of this development. For them, the past few weeks have been heartbreaking; I know this news must be harder still. I urge the media to respect their privacy, and to allow them the space they need at this difficult time.”

Natural Homemade Remedies to Straighten Hair

Hair straightening products are very much in demand. But the chemicals which are mostly used to make your hair flat and sleek, leave their impact on the health of your hair. Hence, natural hair straightening products have become the new look-out.There are many such products present in your kitchen, regular use of these products make your hair smoother, softer and straighter.

Let’s look at a few natural hair straightening ingredients that will help you in straightening hair at home:

1. Coconut milk mixed with lemon juice:
Grate a coconut to extract the milk from it. Coconut milk has hair straightening permanently properties. But if you add lemon juice to it, it will give you better results. Refrigerate the mixture for a few hours. A creamy layer will be produced on the top of the mixture. Apply that cream to your hair and wrap it with a hot towel. Wait for at least one hour. Then, wash your hair with a mild shampoo and dry it completely. You will rediscover your hair with added softness. At the same time, your unruly curls will also become manageable.

2. Regular hot oil treatment:
Not many people know that apart from adding nutrition to your hair, regular oil treatments can make them straight and sleek. Mix coconut oil with olive oil. You can also replace olive oil with almond oil after a few days. Massage this mixture on the scalp and the hair. Cover the hair with a hot towel. Leave it for at least 45 minutes. Then wash with a shampoo.

3. Natural conditioning:
Regular use of hair conditioner after a wash makes your hair soft and supple. Use tea liquor as a natural curly hair conditioner.

4. Milk spray:
Milk is very useful when it comes to flatten your hair. Pour milk in a spray bottle and spray it all over your hair. Wait for half an hour and let your hair absorb the milk. Then wash with a shampoo to discover the new look of your hair

5. Milk and honey:
Take some milk and add honey to the milk to make a paste. To get more effective result, smash strawberries or banana into the mixture. Apply it to your hair. It will take time to get dried. So wait for one and half hour and then wash it.

6. Olive oil with egg:
Both are known to be the integral parts of hair care. But it is not known to many that olive oil and egg together can do wonders on your hair. Beat two eggs and add adequate amount of olive oil. Mix and apply to the hair. Wait for at least an hour and then wash with a mild shampoo.

All these natural products are easily available around you. But you have to be patient. These will not work like a hair straightening treatment at a salon. You have to make a hair care regime and repeat any one of these straightening processes at least twice a week. Only then you can find a marked difference in your hair after a few months. If your hair is too curly and you want it to be straight, you have to visit a salon and expose your hair to the harmful chemicals, which done regularly will damage your hair.
