According to inside sources in the NFF, the decision is coming on the heels of the NFF leadership’s approval of the former Super Eagles winger as the first assistant coach to the new technical adviser of the Super Eagles.

However, Salisu Yusuf, who was before now named the first assistant has been moved to serve as the second assistant and remains the CHAN Eagles coach.

Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has approved the appointment and services of Jose Peseiro as the new technical adviser of the Super Eagles.

It was gathered that Ministry ensured due diligence in the employment process to the extent that it is possible while ensuring that other shortlisted coaches were interviewed and sounded out.

Our source also confirmed that the contract for new coach will now be for a year with a six-month review period. The contract is drafted in such a way that mutual disengagement is possible without Nigeria getting the shorter end of the stick.

The Key Performance Indices (KPIs) in place will ensure Nigeria is able to tap and get the best out of the new coach.

Jose Peseiro has an edge over others because of immediacy and availability plus his willingness to live in Nigeria but notes that the search for a top rated handler would continue in spite of the present interim arrangement.
