Mrs and late Mrs Osinachi Nwachukwu |
The murder of gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu is a sad testimony of how the Christian religious institution and it's Clergy have indirectly aided domestic violence through it's outdated and unrealistic stance on issues bothering on divorce.
The Church's position on divorce inadvertently emboldens abusive spouses and discourages the victim from seeking redress and this reality is the reason why a lot of Christian homes are surreptitiously engrossed in the miasma of domestic violence and the avoidable trauma and deaths that occasion domestic violence.
Christianity is a walk with Christ rather than a religion, a walk with Christ is a personal relationship and it's major advantage is the inherent communication between the believer and Christ. As a Christian, if you don't hear from Christ, then you need some soul searching. On the other hand, religion is a control mechanism that relies solely on dogmas and it is without direct communication between the believer and Christ, the believer rather than hear from Christ, hears from mortal men and their idiosyncrasies, and the earlier we understand these facts, the better we are as adherents of the the Christian faith.
When Mary Magdalene was brought to Christ to have him endorse her execution for adultery, rather than condemn her, Christ sparked up the conscience and common sense of her accusers to save her from the wrath of the law of Moses. So Christianity is about the interplay of faith, conscience, common sense and rationality, not man made dogmas; sadly, a good example of such despicable man made dogma is the " ..... in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, till death do you part, so help you God" marriage creed which has no scriptural backing.
