GOV OKOWA URGES NIGERIANS TO REMAIN STEADFAST AMIDST CHALLENGES

Governor Okowa of Delta State has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast amidst daunting challenges facing the country.

Okowa made the call at the funeral service of late Mrs Emurohwo Igbuya, mother of erstwhile Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Monday Igbuya, at Bethel Baptist Church, Sapele in the state.

He said that many people got discouraged in the face of challenges, but urged them to be faithful to God who alone had solutions to the myriad of challenges facing humanity.

He said that the late Mama Igbuya was an industrious woman who left behind good legacies of great deeds, adding that she was the kind of mother every son and daughter would want to have.

"Am glad she died as a Christian even at the age of 94. We are living in very difficult times and it is at such times that you will find a woman of industry such as mama Igbuya epitomised.

"Many people get discouraged when they face the challenges of life but we must learn in today's Nigeria not to be discouraged with the current challenges we are facing as a nation.

"We do not hope it continues but Christians must show a glistering example even in the face of difficulties.

"We are grateful to God that mama lived a life well spent and impacted on lives," he said.

He prayed God to grant the people the grace to live a life of care for others, saying "If it is well with us and it is not well with those around us then we have not lived well.

"I condole with the Igbuya family on mama's passage and I pray that God will grant them the grace to live as a happy and united family," Okowa stated.

Earlier in a sermon titled "Saints are going home", Rev Dr Dickson Madogwe said the death of saints was a reminder that no one would live on earth forever.

Rev. Madogwe stated that the passing of saints was a call for a purpose-driven life, adding that man's existence was to make the world better.

He charged Christians to make their life count for God by living a purpose-driven life.

"Saints are not necessarily persons with sinless perfection but those who yielded themselves to Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour.

"Another significant lesson from the passing of saints is a charge to prepare us for our eternal home.

"The greatest thing you can take from this life is to live eternally.

"Mama Igbuya lived long enough at 94 in a country where life expectancy is less than 60," the cleric said.

The funeral service was attended by former Governor of the state Chief James Ibori, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Kingsley Esiso, member representing Sapele Constituency, Chief Felix Anirah, Chairman Sapele Local Government Council, Chief Eugene Inoaghan, among other dignitaries.

While saying that he lacked words to express the sudden demise of  Hon. Ogeh, who was a friend and a brother in Nation building before his death, Otuoma recalled that Hon. Ogeh was not just a community leader and mobiliser, but was also an astute politician who never shielded himself from taking a stand on issues.

According to him, "the Isoko Nation and Delta State have lost a key political player in the state."

While encouraging the family and Isoko Nation with the words of God, Otuaro prayed God Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

UZUM DESCRIBES VOTING AS RESPONSIBILITY OF ELECTORATES

The Director General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Eugene Azuka Uzum Esq, has stated that one of the responsibilities of the citizens of any country was ensuring that they vote and enthrone good governance in the country.

Barrister Uzum made this assertion at the Ubeji Market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State during the ongoing sensitisation on Continuous Voter Registration which saw the state orientation team at Jeddo, Refinery Road, Ugberikoko, Ekpan, Effurrun Round About, PTI Junction and other popular areas in sensitising the people about the need for those who were  aged 18, those who lost their Permanent Voter Cards and for those who wish to transfer their voting centres to new centres to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise.

Speaking at the various locations, the DG who was represented by the Director of Orientation, Mrs Stella Macaulay, stated that as a citizen of any country, it is one of the civic responsibility to vote, adding that one could only vote by registering with the ongoing continuous voter registration to get the Voter's Card.

Uzum lamented over voter apathy of some citizens, saying that it was through such "I don't care attitude" that bad governance had been enthroned in the country.

He urged the populace who were eligible for the ongoing registration exercise to actively participate so as to effect the needed change they sought for, stressing that their votes remained their power.

SCHOOL PROPRIETORS URGED TO FOLLOW DUE PROCESS

By Austine Enunwa

Proprietors of private primary and secondary schools in Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State have been advised to follow due process required for the opening of such schools in the state.

The Chief Inspector of Education in charge of the local government, Mrs Vera Aseni gave the charge while inspecting facilities in some of the private schools in the locality.

She said that the charge had become necessary  as the proliferation of such schools had continued to increase by the day without the necessary regulations.

She stated that the proprietors needed to be encouraged to do the needful,  just as she said that closing down such schools would not be the best of interest to the state government as the state government would loose reasonable revenue for such action.

According to the education boss, academic activities should be carried out in a comfortable and conducive environment to improve the quality of teaching and  comfort of the pupils.

On the the crises rocking the NUT Aniocha North Branch, she advised the two factions to burry their hatchets and work towards a peaceful and credible election that would produce the right candidate that would be accepted by all.

She reminded them that of the consequences of the crises, adding that the students and pupils's academic future would be in jeopardy, particularly now that the first term examination was around the corner.
