Every year the Nigeria National Committee of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) gives out honour awards and cash gifts to outstanding candidates.
The candidates must have obtained grade 1 in at least seven subjects which includes Mathematics and English Language.
Last week in continuation of the tradition, candidates were honoured with national distinction/merit award for the May/June 2015 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos state presented the awards to the students during the 54th annual meeting of the council which held at the multi-purpose hall, WAEC international office, Ikeja, Lagos.

1. Babalola David Oluwasayo (first prize)
He was honoured as the best candidate in the May/June 2015 WASSCE. He is currently studying medicine and surgery at the University of Ibadan. He had A1 in eight subjects including Mathematics and English Language) with a total score of 673.7626. He was a student of Oritamefa Baptist Model School, Ibadan, Oyo state. He got a cash prize of N200,000.
2. He is also studying medicine and surgery at the University of Ibadan presently. He made A1 in eight subjects including Mathematics and English Language with a total score of 667.1802. He was a student of Our Lady and St Francis College, Oshogbo, Osun state. He got N150,000 cash prize.

3. Nkata Lewechi Ugonma (third prize)
She had a total score of 660.2430 in eight subjects including Mathematics and English Language. Presently, she is studying chemical engineering at the University of Birmingham United Kingdom. She was a student of Loyola Jesuit College. Her parents represented her at the awards ceremony. She was given a cash prize of N100,000.
Also, for producing the first best aggregate results in the May/June 2015 WASSCE, the Lagoon School, Lekki won WAEC endowment fund price books.
