Gowon Jack Musa, a k a Jack Spencer, was arrested on November 18, 1992, for conspiring to import in excess of 1kg of heroin into the USA. Detectives found, in his room, a Swiss Air Global Hotel Guide on which Musa had written a reference to "The Heroin Connection."
They also found a television documentary on the recruitment of individuals in the Dallas area to smuggle heroin into the U.S. He had also written a phone number for Donald Iwegbu, an alleged co-conspirator who had admitted that the goal of the operation was to smuggle heroin into the U.S.
He was found guilty by a jury and was sentenced to 27 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release, but thanks to the new prison reform in the USA, he was among those granted pardon and released earlier this week.
Although, his father disowned him after being arrested, Musa, now 47, is said to be the product of the romance between Edith Ike Okongwu, who died while Musa was in prison, and former Nigerian president, Gen. Yakubu Gowon.
Edith allegedly lived with Gowon during the war till she was kicked her out of the house. She relocated to the U.S and later came to "kidnap" Musa and took him to U.S. The move backfired as Musa became rebellious as he didn't approve of his mothers single and flamboyant lifestyle.
He was left for dead as his father had also cut him off. This was said to have prompted him go into pushing drugs and he became a high ranking member his drug cartel. He briefly reconciled with his father after he became rich but was disowned again after being arrested.
During his trial, he was said to have refused to sellout on his cartel member just to get a softer sentence. As we speak, he is currently in the U.S Immigration detention where he is undergoing the process of being deported back to Nigeria
