President
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has, on Tuesday confirmed the Acting Inspector general
of Police, Solomon Arase as the substantive Inspector General.
The
confirmation came shortly after the Council of State meeting when the Policecouncil met under the chairmanship of the President.
Tuesday’s
Council of State meeting was the President’s last session as head of the
council having lost his re-election bid. He would however continue to attend
the monthly meetings of the council as a former President.
Arase,
from Edo State, was appointed as acting IG by President Jonathan on April 21,
2015 following the sudden sack of former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. SuleimanAbba.
Until
his appointment as Mr. Abba’s replacement, Mr. Arase was the Head of the Force
Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
He
holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Law, as well as Bachelors and
Masters Degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies.
He
is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.
