The club also vowed to work with the police to fish out those involved in the attack and have them punished accordingly.

Liverpool supporters had gathered on Anfield Road before the second leg quarter-final clash, with several objects thrown at the Real Madrid vehicle.

The Reds’ supporters shattered one pane of a double-glazed window on the bus with Anfield staff forced to clean up broken glass on the ground.

“We condemn unequivocally the actions that led to Real Madrid’s team bus being damaged during its arrival to Anfield this evening,” Liverpool statement read.

“We condemn unequivocally the actions that led to Real Madrid’s team bus being damaged during its arrival to Anfield this evening,” Liverpool statement read.

“It is totally unacceptable and shameful behaviour of a few individuals.

“We sincerely apologise to our visitors for any distress caused. We will work together with Merseyside Police to establish the facts and identify those responsible.”

The English Premier League title holders later crashed out of the Champions League as they could not overturn Real Madrid’s 3-1 lead.

Los Blancos won the first leg in Madrid, 3-1 with goals from Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio, with Mohamed Salah bagging what could be a vital away goal.

Zinedine Zidane’s side will now play another English side and 2012 winners of the competition, Chelsea in the semi finals.

Chelsea defeated FC Porto 2-1 on aggregate in the other quarter-final encounter.

The other semi-finals game will be between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah
