The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned three houses, two luxury vehicles, and ₦1.1 million to a victim defrauded by a self-styled spiritualist, Fatai Olalere Alli, popularly known as Baba Abore or Baba Osun, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The anti-graft agency, in a statement on Wednesday, said the recovered assets were forfeited to the Federal Government and subsequently handed over to the victim, Mr Daniel Babatunde Attiogbe, following a court order secured after the conviction of the fraudster.
According to the EFCC, Alli had deceitfully obtained over ₦200 million from Attiogbe under the pretext of performing spiritual cleansing rituals to avert “visions of untimely death” he allegedly foresaw for the victim.
Among the recovered properties are a five-bedroom duplex with an adjoining three-bedroom bungalow located at Kasumu Village, Odo-Ona Elewe; a bungalow housing two sets of three-bedroom flats at Plot 182, Block D, Lapiti Layout, Akanran Road, Amuloko; and another three-bedroom bungalow at Idi Ayunre Village, all in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Two luxury cars and a sum of ₦1.1 million were also retrieved from the convict and returned to Attiogbe.
The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for victims of financial crimes and warned the public to be wary of individuals who exploit religious or spiritual sentiments for fraudulent gain.
The agency stressed that fraudsters often prey on fear and superstition, urging Nigerians to verify claims and seek lawful solutions rather than resorting to deceptive spiritual interventions.
