Napoli deal hefty blow to Manchester United in pursuit of Victor Osimhen

In Manchester United’s search for a new attacking power at Old Trafford, three strikers have emerged as priority signings: Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen.

United are looking to trigger the release clause of both Cunha and Delap, with the pair being proven Premier League strikers, which combined comes to a hefty £92.5 million.

With United’s current financial struggles, it’s understood that the club are looking to part ways with star winger Alejandro Garnacho, aiming to raise £50 million with his sale.

However, despite these already huge outgoings on the cards, The Red Devils are continuing to pursue Osimhen, with an agreement on personal terms seeming imminent.

All that’s left to do is agree on the transfer fee with Napoli, which United are hoping to get in a cut-price deal.

Calcio Mercato has reported that United are aiming to offer £40 million for the striker, however, this looks unlikely to be accepted by the Italian club.

The report explains that Napoli want the full £62.5 million release clause to be paid to end his contract a year early, despite the Serie A side having no intention of using him in the coming season

At one point, it was believed that Alejandro Garnacho would be used as part of a player swap deal to sign the striker, however it’s now emerged this won’t be the case.

For United to truly benefit from Garnacho’s status as an academy graduate, a straight sale needs to be completed, allowing for the fee to count as pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Rules.

As such, The Red Devils will need to come up with another £22.5 million on top of the £40 million they planned to offer for Osimhen if they want to get the deal over the line.
