UNBELIEVABLE..How Oseni ‘Papalampa’, Sentenced To One Month At Ikoyi Prison For Cannabis Served Only One Night

Oseni Abdulraheem Ayodeji Babatunde, also known as ‘Papalampa,’ a Lekki-based artist’s manager who was sentenced to one-month imprisonment at the Ikoyi Prison by a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on March 21 served his time outside the prison.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Papalampa and his Ikoyi businessman accomplice Nnadi Ikenna for selling illicit drugs to partygoers at nightclubs in Lekki on July 23.

A source at Ikoyi Prison said after Papalampa’s sentence on March 21, he was in the correctional centre for only one night.

According to the insider, Papalampa spent his first night in the Booster, one of the privileged cells, before leaving the following day.

He said that the following morning, the officer in charge of record of the Ikoyi Custodial Centre named Paul said Ben Rabbi, the immediate past controller, wanted to see Papalampa at the office of Julius Ogueri’s office, the Deputy Controller of Prison (DCP).

“The man departed with Paul to Ogueri. Around 4 pm, we saw the guy in white jalabiya, dressed up and left. They took him outside the premises. He didn’t return until the night meant to be his last night in prison. This is what Ogueri does.

“Ogueri and his accountant have been doing all of this for years. It’s the norm here. This is why I want the authorities to come. Let them change this. Why would they sentence someone to prison and then do it in a private place? Are they better than us?

“Many dignitaries have been here; no one came to welcome or move them out of this place, but when Bobrisky got here, Lanre Amoran came. Who called him? They said they suspended the two people at Medium, but they left Ikoyi where the corruption started.”

The source said that on the night, which was supposed to be Papalampa’s last day in prison, the chief warder whom he simply identified as ‘Ibikunle’, and Audu, Ogueri’s driver, sneaked him into the facility for documentation.

In a similar manner, a second Ikoyi Prison insider said he saw Papalampa within the premises of the prison on March 21, adding that Papalampa made his way out of the prison after he called someone he described as his uncle.

“The document is there in the record, as we are all well-documented,” said the source. “He told us the day he came that his uncle said he would not spend his jail term in the facility. I thought it was a joke until we saw it happen.”

When FIJ called Ogueri on Thursday, he asked our reporter to text Papalampa’s full name to him. On Friday, Ogueri called back to say Papalampa was duly incarcerated and that he served out his full sentence in the prison.

He claimed the sources who contacted FIJ had lied blatantly.

FIJ previously reported that Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, the Nigerian transgender woman better known as Bobrisky, spent only three weeks in prison after receiving a six-month sentencing for naira abuse.
