As a way a of protesting the current hike in the price of fuel and electricity tariff in the country association of prostitutes in Onitsha,Anambra state under the banner of Self-Made Women of Substance have issued a threat of going on an indefinite strike.
According to one of the leaders of the association regarded as the patron, Uto Nwanyi, it was acknowledged that the recent hikes in petrol and electricity came when they are yet to recover from the effects of the covid-19 pandemic.
The acclaimed leader opined that since the pandemic broke out in March this year none of their members were able to make ends meet as they didn't get any patronage whatsoever
And while they were still thinking of how to recover from the woes that came with the pandemic, the government struck with petrol and electricity hike which translates to high cost of other basic needs, including house rents.
"The situation bites us more than it affects any other group in Nigeria. Therefore, we are of the opinion that the situation be reversed within seven days,” she said.
They however threatened that if the government fails to respond to request, they would be left with no other option than to embark on a strike effective from October 1st 2020.
And if their proposed strike fails to yield any result, they will however get back to business, but will hike their service charge too by 200 percent which they claimed to have reduce since the ease of covid-19 lock down.
