Drogba Set To Replace Axed Mourinho?

Hours after he sent Jose Mourinho packing, the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reached out to the club’s legend Didier Drogba, in an effort to get the Ivorian to return to his former club, according to reports.

Metro.co.uk, citing Jeune Afrique, reports that Abramovich has contacted Drogba over a potential position in Chelsea’s new backroom team.

It’s understood that Abramovich Drogba to work alongside the new interim manager, expected to be former Blues caretaker boss Guus Hiddink.

Drogba is known to be a bonding influence in the dressing room during his playing days at Chelsea and with signs that the 37-year-old is keen on a return to Stamford Bridge, he’s been offered coaching badges with a view to eventually take over first team duties.

Drogba’s ability to unite players is likely to have appealed to Abramovich given the club’s disjointed start to the season.

He’s happy to return to Chelsea,” a source told Jeune Afrique.

“It’s his heart club, even if he felt betrayed by Jose Mourinho, who had not met all obligations to him when he returned to England during the 2014-2015 season.”
Drogba is currently with MLS side Montreal Impact, and would need to be released from his contract there in order to return to Chelsea.
