Solutions To Recession 'Are Set Out In Economics', Emir Sanusi Knocks Buhari, Again

Emir of Kano and Chancellor of the University of Benin, Muhammadu Sanusi II, may have taken fresh swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari following a recent public comment he made at the institution concerning the state of the Nigerian economy.
It would be recalled that Emir Sanusi and President Buhari have earlier had an altercation that prompted the president to caution all traditional rulers in the country to put in writing whatever advice they have for him concerning running affairs of the economy.

THE WHISTLER further recalls that Sanusi had made blistering public remarks on Buhari’s economic policies, after which he urged the president to stop blaming his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for his failures.

But the emir, during the 42nd Convocation ceremony of the University of Benin, in Benin City, on Saturday, said that the attribution of Nigeria’s economic recession to God is more or less an excuse for failure, adding that one “must not attribute to God that which God has left for us.”

Speaking further, the emir suggested that it is only with the right monetary, structural and fiscal policies that President Buhari can get it right with Nigerian economy.

“If you want to deal with a recession, there are things you have to do, which are set out in economics. You (should) go and do them. Put in the right monetary policy; put in the right fiscal policies; put in the right structural policies and the economy will grow,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi had accused Buhari’s administration of making terrorism attractive to the unemployed in Nigeria following its failure create job opportunities for “over 80 million youths in the country.”
